Roger Caillois once redefined the field of ludology and devised two systems to categorise the types of play and game he saw in the world.
Since that day, a little medium, the videogame, has shown up, and countless ludologists have studied, reviewed, expanded upon and/or critiqued Caillois' original works.
So, today I take a look at what Caillois originally said through the lens of modern games, and explore the more recent takes on his definitions and categories.
Never knew there was so much thought put into types of games/gaming! I learnt something! 😁
Well researched and clearly presented. Great radio voice!
